2023 High Performance Seismology CyberTraining
Tuesday, May 9 to Friday, May 12, between 9 am and 5 pm Pacific Time
2023 High-Performance Seismology (HPS) CyberTraining, a virtual training that will take place from Tuesday, May 9 to Friday, May 12, between 9 am and 5 pm Pacific Time. This workshop is funded by SCEC with additional support from SCOPED, ChEESE, Geo-INQUIRE, DT-GEO, MTMOD, and eScience Institute .
With the rise of data volume and computing power, seismological research requires more advanced skills in data processing, numerical methods, and parallel computing. This training aims to create entry points easing access to high-performance computing and data management for cutting-edge scientific analysis for the seismological community, including training in best practices in data management, software development, and open science.
The learning goals of the workshop are
- To deploy software on the Cloud Systems and clusters from High-Performance Computing Centers.
- To adopt software best practices for large-scale computing (e.g., from a script to a full-stack containerized software).
- To use and re-use tutorials on topical research that require large-scale processing (e.g., ambient noise cross-correlation, wavefield simulations, etc.)
We welcome anyone interested in learning about these tools, particularly early-career students, researchers, and their mentors. We have generous but limited access to Cloud credits on AWS and HPC allocations at TACC. Please apply using this form. We have limited spots for synchronous participation, but will make all content freely and asynchronously available. If you are interested, but the timing will not work for you, please fill out the form to be in the loop for recordings and future tutorials.
